The Bookish Box Review

I've never received any kind of subscription box before, but let me tell you, having this look out of the mailbox at me, might make a girl change her mind.

I found the Book(ish) Box on Instagram and saw that they had a special Harry Potter box coming up so I decided to go for it. Subscription boxes make me nervous for a lot of reasons. 1.) I'm poor, 2.) I always feel like they put cheap items in the boxes to make money for themselves, 3.) I am a planner and I need to know everything, so not knowing what I'm spending money on drives me crazy.
BUT having said that, knowing the box was going to be full of Harry Potter loveliness made me feel confident in buying this box, and I'm glad I did. First off, the Hallows on the side of the box are lovely, and when you open the box the first thing you see is this:

GETTING EXCITED!

First was this shirt with a great Dumbledore quote on it. I ordered a unisex XL, and it fits OK. I'm debating changing it to ladies sizes, because the site states that they really looked for true fit womens shirts when buying. You can also pick a tank top or long sleeve.

Next was a realllly good smelling bag of Butterbeer bath salts. The whole box smelled like it and it made my room smell soo good too.

One of my favorite non-book quotes of all time is JK's
"No story lives unless someone wants to listen. The stories we love best do live in us forever. So whether you come back by page or by the big screen, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home."

So you can guess how much I loved this necklace.

Next was this awesome tumbler! Probably my favorite thing in the box.

and lastly a wonderful watercolor art. It's the perfect size to be easily framed and put anywhere. Love it.

My favorite thing about this box is I feel like the Book(ish) Box gives back to Etsy shops, which makes me feel good about where the money is actually going. These are business' you can continue to support if you want. and they tell you exactly where everything came from. I'm glad I bought this box, and I'm excited to see what next months box contains!!

Anyone else have boxes they love? Hit me up in the comments!

til next time,
Maggie

The Triwizard Golden Egg

Warner brothers has been fueling my HP crafting by posting on their "HP Wishlist" website, and this week they posted a DIY on making your own Golden Egg

Theirs looked a little...messy? to me so I decided to try and make my own, and make it a little more polished.

I started with two sizes of plastic eggs and super glued them shut after eating the candy. Pop rocks FTW!

I tried to figure out the best way to cover the egg with foam, and went back and forth between super glue and double sided tape. The latter worked best so after I lined up the foam I taped them down. I used a scissors to cut them to fit just so.

try to smooth the foam down evenly, the tape will mostly let you re-try if you mess it up.

Once it was secure, I used a toothpick to add the images on the sides. After that I did one coat in back, and then gold to give a little depth.

To make the top I cut out foam and basically repeated the process. I found this image online and tried to copy it. I'm not a super artist so I just did the main lines.
I mean, it's not perfect but oh well.Super glue that guy to the top and ta-da! tis done!

It's not perfect, but I love it! =)

Now to figure out how to make one that opens!

till next time,
Maggie

Hogwarts Great Hall Floating Candles

Someday, I want to throw the most epic of Harry Potter parties. Maybe when I get married, or maybe for a birthday, a HP bash is going to happen. Until then, my HP crafts have taken over my room, and I love it. I was at JoAnns and I saw these LED candles and I thought they'd be perfect for floating candles like in the Great Hall. They're currently on Christmas sale (gah) so I got them for about $2 per candle. I liked these ones because they flicker and have a pretty good battery life. Before you start to craft them, try them to make sure they work, I've had two packs not work well.

So first I needed to make a hole to string the lights up with. I took a pin and heated it on a candle. I used my epic White Yeti candle, and left it burning because Yeti candles are the best =)

Then while the push pin is hot I made a hole in the tip of the candle, and strung some clear fishing line through. I decided to paint the candles, even though I think the ones in the movies are just white, they looked too boring without some sparkle. I used a gold metalic paint, and gave it 2 or 3 coats.

Here they are all shiny and ready to go

So then I just attached them up with thumbtacks and enjoyed them while watching HP
=)

Wooohoo! I love them! If they weren't so expensive i'd do the whole ceiling!
